GAME SHOW TRIVIA RULES

In order to ensure the best experience for all players, we've developed a series of rules that we ask everyone to follow. Please read the rules that apply to the Game Show Trivia program generally, as well as your specific type of play before your first game.

GENERAL RULES:

  1. We're all in this together - let's have fun!
While we will be keeping score, this is primarily designed to be a fun experience for all. This means that no distasteful conduct will be tolerated, including: bullying, harassment, nudity, excessive profanity, excessive game delays and any other behaviour that would otherwise negatively impact the experience of other players.

  2. Creating an account is free
Signing up for an account on the Game Show Trivia website is free. You will only be charged for the leagues and games you join. Creating an account entitles you to additional site information that is not available to the general public. Additional charges may apply (see the rules specific to your type of play to understand more about billing).

  3. Registering for a season or game is not free
In order to join a season or game, you must register using the links found on the Register to Play page. At the time of registration, you will be charged in our systems in full for the price of the season or game for which you have registered. Depending on the type of play you register for (see the Types of Play page for more details), payment may be sought immediately or at a later date. Please read through the Billing and Refunds section of your type of play to learn more.

  4. Games start on time
Be sure to log-in to your game on time. We will open up the game room up to thirty (30) minutes prior to the start time of your game to provide for questions and general discussion, however games will always begin at the scheduled times as long as the minimum requirements for a game have been met (see Minimum Participation for more details).

  5. Minimum participation requirements
Each game must have a minimum of three (3) players to get started. There will be a grace period of ten (10) minutes granted from the start time of each game to allow for enough players to log-in, however after that games will be cancelled. In single-machine League Play and Drop-In games, registrants that showed up to cancelled games will receive a refund for that game (i.e. refunded amount equal to total cost of season divided by number of games in the season); no-shows will not receive a refund. In multi-machine League Play and Hosted Play games, the team captain (i.e. the registrant) will be entitled to a partial refund for the pro-rated amount of the game (this is to cover the cost of labour).

  6. Technical requirements
As a player, you will need the following to participate: high-speed internet, smart phone, laptop with microphone, modern internet browser. For the optimal experience, you could optionally include: web-cam, external microphone, headphones, secondary monitor, Zoom app.

LEAGUE PLAY RULES:

  1. Registering for League Play
League Play consists of a set of weekly games played over a predetermined season length in which players compete against others in the same "league" as them. You can register for League Play in one of two ways; as a:

    1. Single-Machine Player (i.e. as a individual player or small group not to exceed three (3) players).

    2. Multi-Machine Team (i.e. as a team of up to ten (10) single-machine players).

  2. Single machine play leagues
Registering as a “single-machine” means we will place you into a trivia league consisting of other single-machine registrants. You can register for one of our upcoming leagues here. Single-machine players may also request to be placed into single-machine leagues with other players that registered for single-machine play at the time of registration.

    1. To request to be placed in the same single-machine league as another single-machine player please send an email to game.triviashow@gmail.com. Include the contact details of all single-machine players and the league name.

    2. Please note: single-machine play leagues are subject to the requirements outlined in the League Registration Requirements section of League Play Rules.

    3. Please note: single-machine play league registrants are subject to automatic wait listing as outlined in the Automatic Wait Listing section of League Play Rules.

  3. Multi-machine play leagues (team play)
Registering as a "team" means that you volunteer as “team captain” and will organize the members of your own trivia league (see League Registration Requirements for more details). To register a multi-machine team for League Play, please fill out this form.

    1. Please note: the "team captain" is responsible for identifying the minimum number of players as part of the registration process. Additional players may be added after registration by sending an email to game.triviashow@gmail.com. Include the contact details of new players and league name.

  4. League registration requirements
Trivia leagues must meet a minimum requirement of single-machine players to qualify for play. That is, each trivia league must consist of no less than five (5) individuals and / or small groups using their own machines. Likewise, trivia leagues cannot exceed more than ten (10) individuals and / or small groups using their own machines. Trivia leagues may enlist the help of substitute and alternative players to fill gaps on an as needed basis (see Substitutes and Alternatives for more details).

  5. Substitutes and alternatives
Single-machines may also register to be included in the on-call list for "substitutes" and "alternatives". Substitutes will be placed on-call for games in single-machine player leagues. Alternatives will be placed on-call for games in multi-machine player leagues. Substitutes and alternatives will be called upon on an ad-hoc basis to fill gaps within existing trivia leagues. For multi-machine play leagues, "league captains" have the option of managing their own roster of alternatives that can be subbed into games on an ad-hoc basis free of charge. To register as a substitute or alternative, please fill out this form.

  6. Automatic wait listing
For single-machine play leagues, Game Show Trivia reserves the right to place you on a wait list following successful registration. You will only be placed on a wait list in the rare event that the maximum number of single-machines (i.e. ten (10) single-machines) has registered for the same league before you are able to register.

    1. In the event that you are placed on a wait list, a full refund will be provided to you.

    2. In the event that availability opens up for a wait listed registrant, they will need to re-register to play.

    3. Please note: this is due to a limitation in our booking software and is being addressed in time.

  7. Game schedule
For single-machine play leagues, all dates and times will be indicated upon registration allowing you to sign-up for a date / time that works best for your schedule. For multi-machine play leagues, game dates / times will be finalized once the players in the league are finalized; we will do our best to accommodate all schedules. Completed game schedules and calendar invites will be sent to all players once the leagues are finalized.

  8. Weekly confirmations
To ensure consistent quality game play each week, all registrants for a trivia league will be asked to confirm if they can play in that week’s game. Requests for confirmation will be sent three (3) days in advance of game day. If the minimum number of players have not committed at least twenty-four (24) hours before a game, substitutes and alternatives will be called upon.

  9. Billing and refunds
Registrants will be billed for the full cost of the six (6) game season as part of the registration process. For single-machine play league registrants, if the minimum league requirements (see League Registration Requirements for more detail) are not met you will be issued a full refund. Refunds will be issued on the day the league season was set to begin. No mid-season refunds will be issues in any circumstance. For multi-machine play leagues, the "league captain" will be charged for the full cost of the their team as part of the registration process. Additional players can be added to multi-machine play leagues at any time after initial registration (including during the season); additional charges will apply. Refunds for multi-machine play leagues are only issued in extenuating circumstances determined on a case by case basis (if you are looking for a multi-machine play league refund, please contact game.triviashow@gmail.com to discuss). Substitutes and alternatives organized by Game Show Trivia will only be charged for the games they play in at a per game rate. Per game rates are calculated by dividing the cost of an entire season by the number of games in a season. No refunds are issued for substitutes or alternatives in any circumstances.
